Seminar 1: Things I wish I had known – tips, tricks and insider knowledge

Date: Thursday, 18 July 2018
Time: 5:45pm – 8pm
Venue: Hall & Wilcox
Speakers:
Sarah McCarthy – Barrister at law,
Fay Calderone – Partner at Hall & Wilcox, and
Jade Tyrrell – Associate at Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers.

Seminar Description:
Ever wonder if you have missed the boat when colleagues are talking about their experiences and progression in law? Never fear! This session is aimed to discuss the things we all wish we had been told at Uni or when starting our first jobs as lawyers. We will discuss how to set yourself up for career progression, get an edge over your competition and be noticed by the people who will make decisions about your career. This session will provide practical tips and tricks from lawyers in practise and give you the chance to get answers to those burning questions you may not be able to ask within the workplace!

Seminar 2: Pleadings: performing on paper and in Court – Written Advocacy, Court & Tribunal etiquette

Date: Thursday, 15 August 2019
Time: 6:15pm – 8:30pm
Venue: Ernst & Young 
Speakers: Panel discussion with a mix of lawyers and representatives from the bench. We will also be joined by lawyers in practice who will give insight on the subject from the other side of the bench. Speakers include: Justice Gerard Phillips, President of the Workers Compensation Commission, an NCAT member and a junior barrister.

Seminar Description
Classic dos and don’ts of Court and Tribunal etiquette from the people in the biz that have seen it all. Come and learn the accepted Court and Tribunal etiquette, practice and procedure. War stories will be told from both sides of the bench to help you avoid becoming the next war story!

 


Seminar 3: Me Inc– Building your brand: Mentorship, Networking and Marketing

Date: Thursday, 29 August 2019
Time: 5:45pm – 8pm
Venue: Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers, Level 20, 111 Elizabeth Street, Sydney
Speakers:
Katie Malyon, AAT member, presenting with her mentees: Rafael Maestri & Ally Pettitt; and Sally King, Director of Strategic Communication and Business Development, Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers.

Seminar Description
Mentorship cannot be underestimated as a great tool to progress your legal knowledge, practice area and progression through law. Networking and marketing is instrumental in growing your practice. This session will focus on: mentor/mentee relationships, how to get a mentor, how to utilise that relationship, how to work a room at functions, tips and tricks on how to build and raise your profile, how to build a network and client base, as well as how to best present yourself.

 


Seminar 4: Survivor– Emotional intelligence, resilience and dealing with difficult people

Date: Thursday, 12 September 2019
Time: 5:45pm – 8pm
Venue: Lander & Rogers
Speakers: Panel discussion with a mixed panel of practitioners who will discuss navigating awkward office scenarios and how to use your EQ and remain resilient!

Seminar Description:
Are you emotionally intelligent? Have you ever wished you could handle difficult people, conversations or workloads better? If you want the keys to a fulfilling and satisfying career in law, come join us for a hands on workshop to: define your goals; gain insight into emotional intelligence and resilience; learn how to master those skills to make your lawyer life your best life; and share open and honest experiences about what being a lawyer is really like.

 


Seminar 5: Networking ‘Trivia/Social’ night

Date: Thursday,  26 September 2019
Time: 5:45pm – 8pm

Seminar Description:
This fun relaxed evening filled with legal trivia is a great way to utilise and refine the networking skills you have gained during this course and to solidify long lasting friendships with other legal practitioners. Come along for a night of trivia, drinks and refreshments. Share some laughs with your new-found colleagues, whilst testing your general pop culture and legal knowledge. Prizes will be awarded.
