King & Wood Mallesons
The Asian Australian Lawyers Association NSW Branch and Women Lawyers’ Association of NSW are running a cultural diversity focus groups project and seeking 4+ years PQE NSW solicitors who identify as culturally diverse to participate. The project seeks to identify barriers to career progression experienced by solicitors who identify as culturally diverse and put forward recommendations about how this might be addressed. Our project Advisory Committee / Subcommittee consists of Justice Melissa Perry of the Federal Court of Australian Patron of the Hellenic Lawyers Association NSW Branch, and representatives of the Diversity Council of Australia, Race Discrimination Commissioner’s office, Muslim Legal Network NSW, and Baker McKenzie. We are very keen to have as broad as possible a representation of solicitors from culturally diverse and Indigenous backgrounds among the focus group participants. There have been a number of notices in the Law Society of NSW Monday Briefs about this initiative as the Law Society Diversity and Inclusion Committee have been supporting the project.
The focus groups will be held at 12-2pm on Thursday 7 July 2022, and hosted by King & Wood Mallesons (Level 61, Governor Phillip Tower, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney) with in person and online attendance options. Further information is in the attached project information flyer.
To register an interest in participating in the focus groups, solicitors should email project co-convenors Lee-May Saw and Michael Tangonan at AALANSWSurvey@outlook.com, and note in their email what type of role they are employed in – (1) in-house/government, (2) large law firm, (3) small or medium firm, or community legal centre/NGO.
If you are a solicitor (of any level of experience or cultural background) prepared to participate in the Subcommittee’s brief online survey, please click here to participate in the survey – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RDTD937.
