Please join our President, Executive and special guest, Rachael Martin, Principal Solicitor at Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre, to celebrate International Womens’ Day and raise some funds and awareness for the Centre.

In 1988, a group of Aboriginal women came together in Sydney, with the stated aim of addressing the issue of violence perpetrated against women in their community.

In 1995, the NSW Attorney General provided funding to establish an independent Aboriginal women’s community legal centre managed by Aboriginal women. Finally, self-determination for Aboriginal women was being realised.

The words Wirringa Baiya in traditional language mean “Women Speak”.

Wirringa Baiya is a state-wide community legal centre for Aboriginal women, children and youth. Wirringa Baiya focuses on issues relating to violence.

Although their service is available to both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and young people, close to 99% of their clients are Aboriginal.

Their service is free and confidential. If you would like to get involved with Wirringa Baiya, their volunteer and donate sections will tell you ways you can do this. Please visit their website for further information: http://www.wirringabaiya.org.au/

Tickets $49pp includes set Yum Cha Banquet; purchase your own drinks.
After covering costs all proceeds will go to the initiative, and if you can’t make the lunch but would like to donate, volunteer or support the Wirringa Baiya Aboriginal Women’s Legal Centre, please visit their website for further information: http://www.wirringabaiya.org.au/
