JULIE O’BRIEN

AUSTRALIAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Julie O’Brien is General Counsel at the Australian Human Rights Commission. As a human rights lawyer for 20 years, Julie has had conduct of and appeared in significant human rights cases on behalf of the Commission. She has engaged with Parliamentary Committees in their inquiries into key reforms to human rights and discrimination law. Julie is the co-author of Federal Discrimination Law, a landmark publication for lawyers, businesses and individuals to understand the laws. Before commencing with the Commission, Julie worked in commercial litigation for five years both in Sydney and London.

KELLY XIAO

WORKDAY

Kelly Xiao is the Senior Employment Counsel for the Asia Pacific and Japan region at Workday. She provides labour and employment advice to business and human resources across 11+ jurisdictions. As an Asian Australian, she believes that opportunities and mentorship are important in overcoming the racial barriers in career progression of professionals with multicultural backgrounds in Australia. She is passionate about leading with integrity and believes that in-house counsel has a critical role to play in promoting resilience in the legal profession, diversity, equality, and inclusion in the workplace. She is the ACC Australia Young Achiever Lawyer of the Year 2019.

SUSAN LEE

OKTA

Susan Lee is the Head of Commercial Legal for Australia and New Zealand at Okta, and advises on local and cross-border issues spanning the Asia Pacific and the United States. Susan has worked across multiple industries and in key senior leadership roles over her career. As Chairman of Okta’s global Legal Pro Bono Committee, she spearheads pro bono initiatives that make a meaningful impact to the broader community.  Susan is also committed to empowering women in the workplace and currently serves on the APJ Women at Okta Team.
