All these years after theintroduction of sex discrimination legislation we still find manyAustralian women marginalised and on lower pay than their malescolleagues.
There are a number of corrosive stereotypes andassumptions that prevent women’s progress in the workplace includingthose in the domestic and caring realms. These have a serious impact onwomen’s careers – whether they have children or not. If thesestereotypes are to be addressed we need to unpick the main myths andanalyse the latest gender research to look more closely at what happensin organisations, government policy and in our homes. There is no simplesolution but change on all fronts is critical if we are to see a realshift in the next generation of leaders in Australian business, government and the professions.
