Welcome to the Law sub-committee is focused on the advancement and up-skilling of law students and lawyers between 0-5 years’ experience. Since the inception of Welcome to the Law in 2018, this subcommittee has run a number of seminars aimed at upskilling lawyers on a range of topics from written & oral advocacy, emotional intelligence, mentoring, business development, Court & Tribunal etiquette to name a few. It has also been a great opportunity for peer-networking.
The seminars see seasoned lawyers from varied backgrounds come to give attendees advice and support and to share their words of wisdom on a range of topics, not to mention the enviable insight of the ‘things I wish I had known’ when I was a 0-5 PAE lawyer.
The subcommittee aims to reach the wide and ever changing face of 0-5 year lawyers and if there is a community or age group that we are not catering to we ask that you bring that to our attention.
In 2020 the ‘Welcome To the Law’ subcommittee intends to:
· Put on a series of educational seminars similar to previous years;
· Engage a wider audience to ensure lawyers and law students know of our presence;
· Put on one fun event to celebrate the series conclusion; and
· Widen and strengthen our connections to the law student associations within NSW.
