Celebrating the handover of the AWL Patronage from the Honourable Mary Gaudron QC to the Honourable Chief Justice Diana Bryant of the Family Court of Australia, Justice Gaudron noted that being a professional lawyer is “hard work” and that women’s organisations such as WLANSW and AWL are needed for friendship, advice and support. Our corporate lunch that followed on Monday 23 February with Lucinda Chan, Division Director of Macquarie Bank Financial Services, provided a snapshot of financial trends past and present and a realistic viewpoint of the current economic climate. In their 24 February 2009 News Alert, EOWA's 2008 Census of Women in Leadership revealed that the number of women on boards and in executive management positions has declined since 2006. EOWA also released qualitative research titled (A)gender in the Boardroom based on interviews with female directors and male chairs which revealed the challenges facing women in the boardroom. 2009 Rio Tinto NTRB Scholarships for an LLM in Scotland - Applications close Friday 20th March 2009.
Rio Tinto is once again offering two scholarships to lawyers currently working or interested in working at Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs) or Native Title Service Providers (NTSPs). Successful candidates will undertake a one-year Master of Laws (LLM) in Mineral Law and Policy at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee and must commit to work within an NTRB or NTSP for a minimum period of two years upon their return. The program commences in September 2009.

The Q&A program on the ABC is looking for engaged, intelligent and articulate people to get involved in their live to air program that puts punters, pollies and pundits together in the studio to thrash out the hot issues of the week. The premise of the show is that we have a weekly panel of politicians, thinkers and other leaders of Australian society, and the live audience asks them questions directly about current news issues. Q&A is hosted by one of the ABC's most respected journalists - Tony Jones. As host of Lateline, Tony is master of the political interview, but on Q&A he hands the microphone over to you. Past guests have included Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, author and academic, Germaine Greer, Opposition Leader, Malcolm Turnbull, leader of the Greens, Bob Brown, and the Chaser’s Julian Morrow.
