The peak national body for women lawyers in Australia, AWL was officially launched on Friday 19 September 1997. AWL’s patron is the Honourable Chief Justice Diana Bryant of the Family Court of Australia The primary concern of AWL is the practice and advancement of women in the legal profession.

Community Legal Centres (CLCs) are independent, non-profit organisations which provide referral, advice and assistance to more than 350,000 people each year. These services are provided free of charge. There are currently 207 centres in Australia. They range from centres with no paid staff to offices of ten or more employees. Womens Legal Services (NSW)
Centre provides free telephone and face-to-face legal advice, information and referrals to women in NSW on all aspects of the law as it affects women and children. Provides community education and training, publications, lobbying and law reform on issues that concern women.

The New South Wales Bar Association

The Asian Australian Lawyers Association (AALA) is the first incorporated association in Australia to focus on the growing number of Asian Australian lawyers in the profession, as well as other lawyers with an interest in Asia. Our members hail from more than 10 countries in Asia and, between them speak almost 20 different Asian languages and dialects. We have members from all walks of legal life, including students, lawyers and principals from small, medium and large firms, barristers, in-house and government lawyers.

Women on Boards is a national program to improve the gender balance on Australian company boards through skills based selection. The program funds research, holds high-level networking and mentoring events and actively promotes women onto boards. Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) launched a new networking platform for women right across the country in mid 2020. WLA Connect is an inclusive membership community for women at all stages of their leadership journey across all industries and communities in Australia. We are a network of women dedicated to supporting each other, connecting with each other and sharing our wisdom.

Australian Gender Equality Council Responding to the unacceptably slow pace of change towards gender equality in Australia, leading organizations, which represent over 500,000 women in the workplace, have come together to form the Australian Gender Equality Council (AGEC), a national not-for-profit organization.

Jessie Street National Women’s Library
Jessie Street National Women’s Library is a unique specialist library dedicated to the preservation of Australian women’s work, words and history. The Library was established in 1989 and is named after Jessie Street, a lifelong campaigner for women’s rights, the peace movement and the elimination of discrimination against Aboriginal people. http://www.nationalwomenslibrary.org/

The Office for Women The Australian Government is committed to strengthening the provision of gender analysis, advice and mainstreaming across Government. The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women (Minister) works with other Government Ministers to ensure that women’s issues and gender equality are taken into consideration in policy and program development and implementation. The Office for Women (OfW) supports the Minister in this role, and is the central source of advice for Government agencies on the impact of Government policies and programmes for Australian women. The Australian Government will continue to support women to pursue career opportunities available to them by administering the Women’s Leadership and Development Strategy and providing advice across Government.

NSW Network of Women with Disability
The NSW Network of Women with Disabilities was formed in response to the need for a forum where women with disability could:
build a community in which women could share their stories, knowledge and skills; connect with each other; share ideas; share experiences; support each other; create a place where women can celebrate their individual and collective differences as women with disability; and work towards inclusion and equality for women with disability. The Network is facilitated by the Physical Disability Council of NSW and Multicultural Disability Advocacy Association.

European Women Lawyers’ Association
EWLA is registered in Belgium as an international non-governmental, non-profit, association (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif). It is a federation of national women lawyers associations from amongst the European Union countries and those of EFTA countries. Members of EWLA are also individual women lawyers and academics from these countries. EWLA pursues the co-operation of European women lawyers, in order to combine their specific expertise in monitoring law and politics seen from the angle of fundamental rights, and in particular gender equality. http://www.ewla.org/

Irish Women Lawyers Association
The Irish Women Lawyers Association is a relatively new organisation that was formed to provide a professional and social network for women lawyers in Ireland. http://www.iwla.ie/

Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) The Workplace Gender Equality Agency is an Australian Government statutory agency charged with promoting and improving gender equality in Australian workplaces.They are responsible for administering the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (Act). The Workplace Gender Equality Agency was formerly known as the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency.The Agency is part of the Department of Employment portfolio.

International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation working with over 760,000 women around the world. It was founded in 2013 with the vision of protecting precious lives with our motherly heart of love, so that we can pass down a peaceful world to the future generations.

Beyond Bullying An Australian website, Beyond Bullying (www.beyondbullying.com.au) provides information, resources and guidance on workplace bullying, what it is, how it progresses, and what employers can do to prevent it. The Resources and Links page provides useful directions to workplace safety authorities regarding workplace bullying, publications and other websites. It also describes case law summaries of recent bullying and harassment cases.

Soroptimist International – Advancing Human Rights and the Status of Women. Soroptimist International (SI) is a worldwide service organisation for women in management and the professions, working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. Zonta International – Advancing the Status of Women Worldwide
Zonta International is a world service organisation of executives in business and the professions, working to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women.

Talem
Talem is a legal empowerment initiative based in Australia that helps put the law into the hands of those who need it most. We aim to inform Australian women working in the legal sector about global legal empowerment, and connect them with grassroots organisations that are providing important legal training and education to women overseas.

Destiny Rescue exists to Rescue, Restore, Protect, Empower and be a Voice for the Voiceless. Destiny Rescue rescues children from red light districts, brothels and sexually abusive situations; provides rescued children the intensive care and love they need to recover from the traumatic effects of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation; offers programs that help at-risk children and families reduce their children’s chances of being sold, lured or trafficked into the sex-trade; and is committed to being a voice for the sexually exploited, vulnerable and poor.
