2026 COMMITTEE
The Northern NSW Chapter of the Women Lawyers Association of New South Wales was established to support and connect women working across this diverse and vibrant region. Northern NSW is renowned for its stunning rivers, beaches, and surf, as well as its rich farming and fishing communities. Our Chapter is proud to represent and be inspired by the remarkable women who call this region home. We are driven by a passionate local team committed to advancing and supporting women in the legal profession and building strong, inclusive networks across our unique coastal and rural landscape.
TINA DAVIS – CHAIRPERSON
Tina is the Chairperson of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW (Northern NSW Chapter). Tina is an experienced plaintiff litigation lawyer dedicated to supporting the growth and leadership of women and other female professionals in the legal sector.
Tina is passionate about fostering inclusive, supportive networks and driving systemic change within the profession. She is committed to promoting flexible career pathways, encouraging mentorship, and creating opportunities for meaningful connection among women lawyers and their female colleagues.
Tina’s vision is to empower women in law to lead with confidence, thrive in their careers, and redefine success on their own terms.
Mieke Elzer – Vice Chairwoman
Mieke Elzer is Vice-Chairwoman of the Northern NSW Chapter of the Women’s Law Association. She is a Senior Associate at Attwood Marshall Lawyers specialising in Property Law. Mieke is passionate about shifting the culture of the legal industry to better support women in bringing their own authentic perspectives, values, and styles of leadership to the profession. She brings a strong commitment to environmental and social justice to her work.
Saf-fire Betham (Student member)
Saf-fire currently works as a Legal Assistant at EmploySafe Legal whilst studying a Bachelor of Laws full-time at Southern Cross University.
She hopes to use her position as a student member of the Chapter to encourage other female law students to build confidence, step outside their comfort zones and actively pursue opportunities within the profession.
YASMINE CHALVATZIS – COMMITTEE MEMBER
Yasmine is a Personal Injuries Associate at Attwood Marshall Lawyers who was drawn to the legal profession by a genuine desire to help people and make a real difference in their lives.
As a Committee Member for the WLA NSW, she is dedicated to creating a legal profession where women feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed.
She is passionate about building connections, fostering opportunities, and advocating for the advancement of women in law across Northern NSW.
Xara Coassin – Committee Member
Xara Coassin is a Senior Associate at Attwood Marshall Lawyers, specialising in complex estate planning for individuals and businesses across Queensland and New South Wales. After years in commercial litigation seeing the stress and challenges clients can experience firsthand, Xara shifted her focus and now helps clients plan ahead to safeguard their legacies and avoid costly disputes.
As a Committee Member of the Women Lawyers Association of NSW (Northern NSW Chapter), she brings that same commitment to supporting women in the profession and is keen to build meaningful connections across the region.
Jessica Grant-Nilon – Committee Member
Jessica Grant-Nilon is a Senior Associate at Turner Freeman at their Tweed Heads office.
Jessica works in the Personal Injury space and is passionate about assisting others in the community during a particularly difficult time of their life. She is passionate about supporting and promoting women within the profession, to continue to strengthen the profession and legal community and provide client advocacy.
KATE SIMPSON – COMMITTEE MEMBER
Kate is the Principal of EmploySafe Legal and an Accredited Specialist in Workplace Relations. Based in Northern NSW (Tweed), she is a passionate advocate for women in law and committed to strengthening connection among regional practitioners.
