Following our AGM on 20th November 2012, I am honoured to be elected President. I would like to thank the Immediate Past President, Rebecca Barry, and outgoing committee members. Please click here to view Rebecca’s President’s Report from the AGM  and our Financial Report. A very warm welcome to the newly elected committee who will be meeting shortly following our Christmas lunch meeting with outgoing and some members of our sub-committees members. Please click here to view photos from the lunch.

Planning is underway for the New Year, and events to note are Thursday 21st February Networking Cocktail Event with guest speaker Marion Pascoe, Deputy Parliamentary Counsel and President of the Union, University & Schools Club, our annual “Law as a Career-Coming to the Bar” free public event during Law Week 13-19 May 2013, our biannual The Janet Coombs Lunch for New Female Barristers hosted by WBF & WLANSW, Friday 17th May & Friday 13th September, and our annual Golden Girls “High Tea” Luncheon Friday 15th November at The Law Society of NSW. 2013 will also host our biennial NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards. The Gala Awards Presentation Dinner has been confirmed for Friday 25th October at Cockle Bay Darling Harbour. There are limited opportunities to sponsor an award and other aspects of our awards, so please note your expression of interest early to avoid disappointment. I look forward to bringing you further details of our 2013 Awards and other events in the New Year.

Our Christmas Drinks following the AGM was a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues and we were delighted to welcome members and honoured guests including our Patron The Hon Justice Jane Mathews AO of the Supreme Court of NSW; The Hon Greg Smith MP, Attorney General of NSW, The Hon Chief Justice Tom Bathurst QC, Supreme Court if NSW, Prof Rosalind Croucher, President of ALRC, Jane Needham SC, Senior VP NSW Bar Association, John Dobson, incoming 2013 President of The Law Society of NSW, Marion Pascoe our host at UUSC; Bob Campbell, Editor of Society Journal, to name a few, joined us in celebrating the end of another fabulous year. Please click here to view the photos from the event.

We join our colleagues in applauding the passage of the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012, announced by the EOWA in a Media Release 22nd November “a landmark development on the journey to gender equality in Australian workplaces.” , and we will continue to participate and support this renewed and revised focus in the years ahead.

It was a great pleasure to support the cocktail event on the 15th November with the Women Barristers Forum at the Verandah Restaurant, celebrating a record number of female silks appointed this year, 12 of the 26. Please click here to view photos from the event (insert pic in RH column please). We were proud to partner with The Law Society of NSW to host two networking workshops aimed at female solicitors and barristers, on how to build and enhance your business development skills on 23 & 29 November. In association with the Workplace Practices Sub-Committee of the Women Lawyers Association of New South Wales, Norton Rose hosted An evening with the President of Fair Work of Australia on 29th, November, with Justice Ross. We look forward to continuing these partnerships in 2013.
